The Chlenov Street project, in collaboration with Messer Architecture, was created in 2016-17 following approval by the Tel Aviv-Yafo municipality’s sculpture committee. I was commissioned to create permanent artworks for both the building’s interior and exterior, including an illuminated large-scale crane sculpture outside, a lobby piece, and individual works on each floor opposite the elevator.
My starting point was the unique buildings surrounding the site-structures destined for renovation or demolition. I documented them to preserve a memory of the area before its transformation.
The building borders the former wholesale market and faces the Russian Church, surrounded by crumbling International and Eclectic-style architecture. Windows are barred, pipes weave across facades, and cranes dominate every corner.
The central façade piece (3x5 m) depicts cranes slicing through the skyline, symbolizing both destruction and rebirth. Each work integrates fragments of nearby buildings, anchoring the project in its rapidly changing environment.
