Terminal 9.77, 2011 | Site-specific installation (installation view) | Haifa | Laser cutting, metal | 7x9 m | Curator: Yeela Hazut
The work was created while wandering around the Wadi Nisnas neighborhood in Haifa and looking at the local architecture. This mixed neighborhood is near the sea, and many of its residents work in the port of Haifa or are linked to it in various ways. Most of the low-rise neighborhood buildings are neglected.
On the wall of a building that looks like a patchwork of different archeological layers, I mounted rusted metal boats which became integrated organically into the crumbling character of the structure. While cranes and Mediterranean arches ground the bottom post of the work, the viewer’s gaze lifts up creating a sense of freedom and movement in the structure.
This outdoor project was created in 2011 in collaboration with Yeela Hazut, curator at the culture center Beit Hagefen in Wadi Nisnas, and remains on site.
